Child Rights & Child Protection
Right to Education is one of the most important fundamental rights of every child who is between 6-14 years of age. As an advocate for child rights Holy Word School was founded by Rev. Benjamin Khati in 1981.
Since its inception HWS has been providing education to children who are under privileged and from a very low socio-economic background. So far over 1800 children have been reached as per our Educational Programme. These children are primarily from tea plantation areas of Dooars & from around Siliguri. These children mostly belong to tribal communities living a life of extreme poverty & deprived of their basic rights. Most of the Children benefitted by our Educational Programme are orphans with either a guardian or a single parent in the village.

Awareness & trainings on prevention of Child sexual abuse, Child rights & Child Protection issues
We at Light-House strongly believe in shifting the trend where there is a general reluctance to talk about issues of Child sexual abuse in a country like India which is home to the largest number of sexually abused children in the world. In shifting this trend we want to make India a safe home for children and people who are protected from all forms of violence & abuse. To begin with we are focusing on sensitizing communities of parents, teachers and caregivers working with
children in and around Siliguri.
